The Book Club Just Keeps Sending These Things

Dr Michael R Debenham qualified at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, in 1977.
His GMC registration number is 2369882, and he holds the following titles:

M.B.    (Bachelor of Medicine)
B.S.   (Bachelor of Surgery)
L.R.C.P.   (Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians)
M.R.C.S.   (Member of the Royal College of Surgeons)

Having completed his basic training at Barts, Dr Debenham held House Officer posts in surgery and general medicine at Bury St Edmunds, followed by five years GP training with the RAF.  This involved a mix of hospital and general practice positions, especially caring for the health needs of young families.

In 1983 he joined a large NHS group practice in Hadleigh, Suffolk, where he worked alongside his father (also a GP).  In 1993 he established his own practice in nearby Boxford, but over the next seven years became increasingly disillusioned with the NHS, both because of the limitations it placed on the service he could provide, and because he was spending more time on bureaucratic form-filling than actually caring for patients.

His decision to move into private practice was not taken lightly.  The NHS provides a relatively secure career path, but - directly and indirectly - it places many limits on what a doctor can do for his patients.  Opting out of the NHS system is a bold step, but as more and more GPs - and their patients - have discovered, private practice brings many benefits.

Having established Northlands, Dr Debenham is now able to achieve what he originally set out to do - provide truly high quality health care.
