At Northlands Practice we offer a very special health screening service. In common with other screening facilities, we aim to conduct a thorough review of overall health. But where most such services follow a rigid 'A, B, C' procedure that boils down to a production line, we recognise that every individual is different. When it comes to health care, one size does NOT fit all. Which is why our screening adapts to you, rather than you having to adapt to it.
We start by reviewing personal and family health histories, then carry out all the standard tests, including ECGs, audiometry, spirometry, visual acuity, blood analysis, cholesterol levels and types, thyroid, liver and kidney functions. The results of these may in turn suggest more detailed screening, some of which is conducted in conjunction with the Nuffield Trust, Ipswich.
As with standard screening, the results of all these tests are fed into a computer program that uses 'general rules' to assess risks. But although computers are brilliant at 'crunching numbers', people are not numbers, and their health seldom follows general rules.
This is why we also take the time to talk with each client - and it's this that often enables us to identify potential problems that 'production-line' screening may miss. As every good doctor knows, listening is a vital element in both prevention and cure. We aim to make our recommendations both realistic and manageable. And, unlike many other screening services, we are happy to be involved with the subsequent management of any problems that may be identified.
