Pneumococcal Vaccine
Pneumococcal vaccine has been introduced recently. Needless to say we are only 10 years behind the USA in this health initiative.
In fact pneumococcal infection is fairly common but complicated infection is fortunately rare.
Pneumococcal infection can be complicated by septicaemia and meningitis, frequently with tragic results.
I believe, therefore, that this vaccine is well worth having and indeed have been using it for several years.
Often pneumococcal vaccine is being offered at the same time as MMR. I cant really agree that this is immunologically sound. It would be a good idea, therefore, if when your child is invited for this vaccination it is inserted with at least the a six week interval between the mumps and rubella vaccinations.
